5th class trip to Collins Barracks

After learning about and producing magnificent projects on the 1916 rising, 5th class went to visit Collins Barracks on the 20th May. A schools open day was held as part of the celebrations for Cork Rebel Week. We were treated to an amazing guard ceremony and music from the band of 1 brigade. We even had the opportunity to see a variety of military equipment and displays and talk to some very high ranking officials. We tried on bomb squad gear, held dummy guns and tried out a number of vehicles. We got to see the Sliabh na mBan which was the vehicle that Michael Collins was travelling in the day he was shot. On top of all that we were also invited back to view the Michael Collins collection in the Museum at a later date. We really enjoyed our experience at Collins Barracks. It was a wonderful opportunity to visit such a fabulous place in our community.
