Christmas crafts, drama, and a trip to the cinema! 2nd class

It was an exciting and busy time for us in 2nd class in the lead up to our Christmas holidays. We were delighted that all three class groups got an opportunity to enjoy some festive activities together, both in and outside of school!

December had us off to a busy start as we marked the 6th of December for some pupils who celebrate St. Nicholas’ Day and were delighted to discover some gifts alongside their shoes, which they had left out the night before!

We discovered that there are 27 languages spoken among our student body, and we translated, cut out, and coloured in the phrase, ‘Merry Christmas’ for each one. These were displayed along our school corridors for all to see. We also created a video featuring the children in 2nd class saying Merry Christmas in the additional languages they speak, which was shown to the school during our December assembly!

We enjoyed some fun and messy clay art, creating tree decorations and tealight candle holders to bring home for the holidays, and we were so excited for our excursion to see the film Strange World at Midleton cinema.

Finally, we rounded off a hectic and festive term with a short adapted drama performance of ‘Home Alone’ on stage in the halla. Each class group performed for one  another and there was great fun and creativity as the children got to learn about vocal expression & projection, using props, movement on stage, and performance for an audience.

We look forward to more creative and enjoyable ventures after a restful Christmas break.
