It’s been a busy first term for 6th class! We have focused on working collaboratively on many interesting projects.
In September we worked together to set personal and class goals for this year.We thought about our strengths, weaknesses and what we want to achieve this year and created a class display to remind and support our goals. We are reaching for the stars!
October was a busy month. We put our learning about The Normans into practice by creating a large construction of a Norman motte and bailey castle. Working in groups, each pupil played to their strengths – gathering materials, drawing up plans, motivating others, delegating and constructing. Our castle construction is proudly displayed outside our classroom. We also worked together to create a large pop art portrait of human rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King in celebration of human rights month. We were all inspired by his words and are determined to continue to support his dream.
We began working on our RDS Primary Science project in November. We worked in groups and as a class to discover the answer to our research question – ‘Why do we need to drink water?’. Brainstorming, researching, experimenting and collecting and analysing data has really kept us busy.
The highlight of the term was our class performance of The Wizard of Oz in December. Our classroom was transformed into Munckin land by colourful props and we really enjoyed transporting our school friends and parents over the rainbow to this magical land through drama, dance and song.
This term has demonstrated what we can achieve by working together and we look forward to more collaborative projects in term 2. Ní neart go cur le chéile.
