Yellow Flag Renewal

We are delighted to announce that the school have had their Yellow Flag renewed for the first time. The Yellow Flag is awarded to the school for promoting inclusion and celebrating diversity. The school has shown that they have continued to work in this area and showed following a stringent inspection that they have fulfilled the criteria to renew its Yellow Flag. Big congratulations to the link teachers (Catriona, Elaine, Bairbre and Shelley), staff members, pupils and community groups that have supported the work.

It was wonderful to see the committee presenting so well and talking in confidence about the issues that were observed within the school setting. The learning environment that the pupils are in was highly commended and that the pupils’ communication skills, knowledge and respect to the programme were a testament to the school. Well done pupils!!

Even though the flag won’t be up for renewal until 2017/18 we do have recommendations to follow. The two main recommendations are:

  • A bigger focus on parental involvement on the Diversity Committee and allow the focus on parent led initiatives such as an intercultural lunchbox.
  • Promoting the Yellow Flag and intercultural work in the community.

The recommendations are certainly areas we are looking forward to getting involved in and working towards our next renewal.
The Yellow Flag ceremony will be taking place in Dublin Castle in January and we are looking forward to fly our new flag with pride once again.
Well done to all that were involved and to the school for being part of such a successful programme.
Did you know we are only one of four schools in Cork to hold the Yellow Flag……that is some achievement!!
