Don’s 3rd class were recently given the wonderful opportunity to meet Cork author, Ann Dalton courtesy of Midleton library.
Ann Dalton is a writer of radio drama for children.
The children were introduced to the story, ‘The Lonely Flower’ which was written and produced by Ann Dalton and broadcast on RTE Jnr Digital Radio in 2015, prior to meeting her. What was unique about this experience, was that the story was completely in audio which required the children to apply their best listening skills.
The story proved very popular amongst the children. On our visit to meet Ann, she presented the background and development of The Lonely Flower, first as a piece of writing and then as a piece of audio, looking at how an idea for a story can begin and take flight and then how some sound effects can bring it all to life for audio drama.
Ann chatted with them about the various elements of The Lonely Flower; the storyline, the characters, use of humour, rhyme etc.
Finally they had the opportunity to choose from the following activities,
- work on illustrations of their favourite characters and scenes from the drama,
- write a few lines of their own, either as a piece of dialogue or to create a different ending.
- to record their voices and/or sound effects based around the content of the story.
The children really enjoyed their workshop with Ann and the quality of their input and questioning was truly magnificent.
Well done 3rd Class 🙂
