MĂșinteoir Diane’s Junior Infants are still talking about their visit to the UCC Medical Society’s Teddy Bear Hospital event that we were so thrilled to take part in on April 11th. We were very confident coming back to the classroom and applying what we learned on our trip to our theme of the doctor/hospital in Aistear. We looked at some x-rays, gave some old classroom teddies examinations and diagnosed a lot of problems like wobbly noses and sore tongues! Our receptionists were very busy answering calls at the doctors surgery and sorting out the bills for all the patients. We also learned about the skeleton and all the different bones. We developed our writing skills by completing some free writing on skeleton parts and hospital vocabulary. We also made different bones using playdough and even got a chance to make a dog’s skeleton!
Muinteoir Aisling’s Junior Infants enjoyed learning all about the farm during April. We saw photographs of one of our student teacher’s (Claire) brother at work on the farm. We also learned a lot about the farm through Aistear. We built chicken coops, stables and farm houses. These were very impressive and would easily make a good home for many farm animals! We also explored new vocabulary related to the farm and practised writing these words in our free writing copies. It was great fun to use play-dough to make farm animals and there were some beautiful sheep and chickens made by the boys and girls. Finally, we had the most fun planting seeds in our flower pots whilst we also got to play with some toy animals in the clay. Look out for our colourful pots on the window sill and fingers crossed we will see some summer flowers soon.
