Second Class – School Blog

Second class began their school year with a flourish and are really enjoying their new smaller classes! The two classes visited Cork Opera House together to see ‘Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play’. It was a real treat to go on the bus with our classmates and then visit the Opera House. We really enjoyed the play…especially the bubbles and we practised our recount writing when we wrote about our fantastic day upon our return to school.

We dressed up for Halloween this year after we learned all about the various traditions of Halloween. Hazel’s Mum even made us some Bárín Breac to taste! We learned how Halloween is celebrated by other cultures around the world, for example, in Mexico,  they celebrate ‘ Dia de los Muertos’ for three days! We discovered  lots of interesting facts about Spiders, all of which we included in our ‘Oíche Shamhna’ Projects. We all performed in our Halloween play ‘The Ghostcatchers’ and we read ‘Room on the Broom’ in class as well as learning the song which we sang as we whizzed around the classroom on our broomsticks!

The icing on the cake…or should we say the bubbles on our potions, were the chemical reaction potions we devised in class where we used food colouring to represent vampire blood and frogs slime in our chemical reaction mixtures!
