1st Class News – September

First class started station teaching three days a week. The theme for September was animals. We made a pet shop, lost pet signs, completed a pet survey, spoke about the class pet METS, caring for pets, the zoo and my pet and we became pet detectives for the day.

The children added the sounds ‘sh’, ‘ch’, ‘th’, ‘ng’, ‘qu’ and ‘ar’ to our sea of sound.

They took Matty the monkey (Class mascot) home at night in turns. Each morning the child that took Matty home spoke about their ‘adventure’ this really helped improve oral language skills in the class as well as helped to build confidence and self esteem. Some children brought in pictures and drawings illustrating Matty’s adventure.

We finished our class reader ‘ Finn’s dream and the gingerbread man’ and collected fifty new words for our word wall. We had gingerbread cookies to celebrate.  We started dictation and our very first project ‘ Trees’.

Well done first class
