Reading For Pleasure
This term we have put a big emphasis on reading for pleasure. We always encourage the children to engage with the class library, extracts from stories in school books and class novels; but thanks to Múinteoir Bairbre we were able to take part in a new initiative.
Third class students spent three weeks, exploring storybooks together, demonstrating the skills of story telling and above all enjoying the new stories purchased for our school libraries.
Once the boys and girls developed confidence working together, they visited Múinteoir Kay’s First Class and shared their enthusiasm and love of reading!
It was thoroughly enjoyed by all and fantastic to see and hear the reading and laughter filling the room! I would encourage you all to take the time to enjoy a storybook with your child, simply for the enjoyment of the story 🙂
Swimming
Third and Fourth Class took part in a six week swimming course in Aura, Youghal. This course covers the curriculum strand Aquatics. The children went to swim lessons every Tuesday. The instructors were very helpful and patient. Many made great progression and the 5 mins of ‘free time’ at the end of each session was a big hit!!
Lá Ceann Craicéailte
Lá Ceann Craicéailte was a fundraising initiative held by the Student Council. Each student was invited to create a crazy hairstyle or wear a crazy hat on Wednesday 16th March. It was also asked that anyone taking part would bring in €2, of which €1 when to the Student council fund and the other €1 went to the Simon Community.
I have to commend the effort put in by the pupils of Third Class, a variety of hairstyles, hats and crazy coloured hair made for great fun and entertainment. A big thank you to all who donated to this very worthy cause!
