Both 2nd classes have really enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year in February. This learning complimented our previous study of China. Shelley’s 2nd class learned all about the traditions in China for this celebration. 2018 is the year of the Dog. We listened carefully to step by step instructions and made beautiful origami dogs. We also class also completed projects on Chinese New year and presented them to the class. Information reports is our genre in literacy so we all wrote information reports on Chinese New Year. Here are some pictures below!
Alan’s class learned first hand from Conan’s mother Jen all about Chinese New Year and especially how it is celebrated in Taiwan. We learned about the 12 different animals of the Chinese Zodiac calendar and how they came to be selected along with the key traditions and celebrations associated with Chinese New Year. Jen also demonstrated how to say and write ‘Happy New Year’ in Mandarin and the children produced their own beautiful representations on red paper; as red is considered a lucky colour during this time.
