6th Class at the RDS for the BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2014

Another great year for Midleton Educate Together at the BT Young Scientist. 6th class have worked collaboratively in answering the question Does temperature affect the viscosity of a liquid? The purpose of our entry was to investigate what viscosity is and through experimentation we investigated how heat causes a change in the viscosity of liquids. A study of lava and its varying viscosities formed a large part of our project. Team work was imperative to this project in which a large 3D volcano was constructed and smaller clay models were also completed. This study of volcanoes showed us that lava has different viscosities depending on how hot the lava is. We learned that the viscosity of the lava forms the shape of the volcano! Our conclusion was that yes in fact temperature does affect the viscosity of a liquid! Well done to all 6th class who represented the school with such pride at this years exhibition.
