Olwyn’s 6th Class have been learning all about Nanoscience – with a little help from Trinity College Dublin’s material science department, AMBER. We have discovered that nanoscience is the study of the really, really, really tiny. Materials often behave differently at the nano-scale. Some cool things we have learned include the fact that geckos have nano-sized hairs on their feet that allow them to walk up walls! And that our fingernails grow at about a nanometre every second!
Here are some photos of us investigating how materials behave differently when they get smaller. And us building models of graphene – a newly discovered material that is stronger then diamond!
