Budding Entrepreneurs in 6th Class

6th Class have been busy balancing the books this term and getting to grips with the workings of the entrepreneurial world. Thanks to the Junior Entrepreneur Programme, they had the unique and worthwhile opportunity to learn all about enterprise and entrepreneurship and to apply this knowledge to research, design, produce, market and sell their own products.

The class worked in teams to develop business ideas which they presented to a panel of ‘dragons’ in the style of the popular tv show Dragon’s Den. Our panel of dragons; Múinteoir Amy Murphy, Múinteoir Bairbe and Ms. Niamh Wylde, were faced with a difficult task when choosing the most viable business idea as all the teams researched and presented very interesting business ventures which ranged from a school stationary shop to a funky photo booth.

The chosen business idea was further developed by the class and their JEP company, Love2Grow was born. Love2Grow produced 200 G.I.Y. (Grow It Yourself) Beanstalk Kits in the month of March. The kits were sold on the class’ JEP showcase Day on 26th March. The classroom was transformed to accommodate our business launch and the sale of our products. It was a fun day for 6th class and the school community. You can watch this animoto which tells the story of our project by clicking on this link: http://tinyurl.com/knzss7z

On May 1st, 6th class will travel to Mallow for the regional JEP showcase day. They will present their project to other schools and the JEP organisers and hope to bring a JEP red flag back to METNS. Watch this space!
