Fourth Class – September

September was spent identifying the relationship between the built and natural environment in Ireland. We identified some of the key natural features of the Irish landscape but focused particularly on built settlements in Ireland. We charted the changes in settlements from cave dwellings to rural thatch cottages to modern day apartment complexes. When examining each type of settlement, the building techniques and advantages associated with each individual type of dwelling was noted. To reinforce the relationship of the built and natural environment, fourth class looked at one of Cork’s most iconic structures and created observational drawings using pencil.
