If you go down to the wards today…Teddy Bear Hospital 2018

We were lucky to be one of five Cork schools invited to attend UCC Medical Society’s Teddy Bear Hospital event a couple of weeks ago. Diane and Karen’s 1st class children brought teddies with sore paws, torn ears and ripped sides to the Aula Maxima in UCC for treatment. The aim of the Teddy Bear Hospital is to introduce children to doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals in the hospital, through the eyes of their teddy. This is done in a friendly and entertaining way so they will have a better idea of what to expect if they ever need to visit to the hospital, or will have helped them adjust to experiences they may have already had. After an initial consultation with their brave teddy, the children decided on a treatment with the help of student doctors from UCC’s Medical Society. Some cuddly friends needed xrays, prescriptions and a general check ups where their heartbeat and temperature were checked. Judging by the smiling faces at the end of the day, all teddies made a full recovery!
