METNS were delighted to once again take part in the annual FAI Primary Soccer 5-a-side competition. We entered both a team of boys and girls with each team playing at different venues on different days. However, one thing remained the same as each team recorded their best performance since we first entered the competition 6 years ago.
The boys’ team was first up and played at Mayfield AC on Thursday 5th March, making it to the play off final, only to miss out going onto the next stage at Turners Cross following a narrow 3-2 defeat. Along the way, they recorded 3-1 and 7-0 wins before winning a dramatic penalty shoot-out after an entertaining 2-2 draw and subsequently topped their group.
Our girls’ team competed locally at Knockgriffin Park on Tuesday 10th March and again enjoyed our most successful tournament to date. After four matches, they had won two games, drew another and lost one more. It was also a very impressive defensive display only conceding two goals during the whole tournament.
Both events were well organised and the children had a brilliant time enjoying the excitement, drama and energy of playing competitively as a team.
We are immensely proud of both teams for the way they represented our school, demonstrating strong values of respect, responsibility and cooperation.
We are already looking forward to next year’s challenge.
